অজ্ঞাত ভাইরাস “পানামা” আতঙ্কে কলাচাষীরা
টাঙ্গাইলের মধুপুর, ঘাটাইল, সখীপুর, মির্জাপুর উপজেলার চাষীরা “পানামা” আতঙ্কে সম্ভাবনাময় ফসল কলাচাষে আগ্রহ হারাচ্ছে। স্থানীয় কলাচাষীদের কাছে পানামা রোগ একটি অজ্ঞাত ভাইরাস।
এ রোগে আক্রান্ত হলে প্রথমে কলা গাছের পাতা হলুদ হয়। পরে ধীরে ধীরে কলাগাছ নিস্তেজ হয়ে মারা যায়। এ ভাইরাসটি বর্তমানে ভয়াবহ রূপ ধারণ করছে। প্রথমে ২-৪টি কলাগাছ আক্রান্ত হলেও দ্রুত পুরো বাগানে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে অজ্ঞাত (পানামা) ভাইরাস।
গত কয়েক বছরে পানামা আক্রান্তের হার সহনীয় পর্যায়ে থাকলেও দুই বছর ধরে মারাত্মক আকার ধারণ করেছে। ফলে এসব অঞ্চলের চাষীদের মধ্যে লোকসানের ভয়ে কলাচাষে অনাগ্রহ বাড়ছে। ফলে কলাচাষে বিপর্যয় দেখা দিয়েছে।
জানা গেছে, লাল-ধুসর মাটি কলা চাষের জন্য বেশ উপযোগী। মাটির উর্বরতার পাশাপাশি অনুকূল আবহাওয়া কলার উৎপাদন আরো বাড়িয়ে তোলে। বাজারে কলার চাহিদায় কেউ কেউ আনারস বাগানের পাশে বিভিন্ন জাতের কলার চাষ শুরু করেন। কম খরচ ও স্বল্প শ্রমের কলাচাষে লাভের মুখ দেখেন এসব অঞ্চলের কলা চাষীরা।
মধুপুর অঞ্চলে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে ঐতিহ্যবাহী আনারসের পরেই কলাচাষে কৃষকদের আগ্রহ বেশি ছিল। স্থানীয় আদিবাসীরাও আনারসের সাথে কলাচাষ করছিল। এতে অনেকে স্বাবলম্বীও হয়েছেন। কলা গাছের পরিত্যক্ত অংশ স্থানীয় কারখানায় প্রসেস করে সুতা ও শো-পিচ তৈরি করা হচ্ছে। হঠাৎ অজ্ঞাত ভাইরাসের (পানামা) আক্রমণে অপার সম্ভাবনাময় কলাচাষে স্থানীয় কৃষকদের মাঝে অনাগ্রহ সৃষ্টি হয়েছে।
স্থানীয় কলা চাষীদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে জানা যায়, প্রতি বিঘা জমিতে ৩৫০ থেকে ৩৮০টি কলা গাছ রোপন করা হয়। একটি কলা গাছে রোপন থেকে বাজারজাত পর্যন্ত ১২০ থেকে ১৯০ টাকা খরচ হয়। প্রতিটি কলার ছড়ি ৩২০ থেকে ৪৩০ টাকায় বিক্রি করা যায়। এ হিসেবে প্রতি বিঘায় প্রায় ৫০ হাজার টাকা কৃষকের লাভ হয়।
এসব অঞ্চলে বারিকলা-১ ও বারিকলা-২ (আনাজিকলা), অমৃতসাগর, মন্দিরা, মন্দিরা সাগর, সবরি, চম্পা, চিনিচাম্পা, কবরি, মেহেরসাগর, বীচিকলা ইত্যাদি জাতের কলা চাষ হয়ে থাকে। পুষ্টিকর ফল কলা চাষে স্থানীয় চাহিদা মিটিয়ে দেশের অন্য জেলাগুলোতে রপ্তানি করা যায়। পানামা রোগের কারণে বর্তমানে কলা চাষের প্রতি কৃষকরা ক্রমশ অনাগ্রহ দেখাচ্ছে। চাষও দিন দিন কমে যাচ্ছে।
কৃষি বিভাগের মতে, গত বছর শুধুমাত্র মধুপুর উপজেলায় ১০ হাজার একর জমিতে কলা চাষ হলেও এবার মাত্র ৭ হাজার একর জমিতে কলা চাষ করা হয়েছে।
সরেজমিনে দেখা যায়, মধুপুর উপজেলার কলাচাষী শোলাকুড়ির ধরংপাড় গ্রামের শামীম মিয়া, নায়েব আলী, হরিণধরার আ. রশিদ, সোহাগ হোসেন, ফকিরাকুড়ির আনোয়ার হোসেন আনু, নওগাইলের খোকন মিয়া, লটপাড়ার শফিকুল ইসলাম, হাগুরাকুড়ির আনোয়ার হোসেন আলম, চাঁনপুর গ্রামের আবুল কালাম, হাফিজুর রহমান সহ অনেকেই জানান, তাদের প্রধান ফসল আনারস। সাথী ফসল হিসেবে তারা কলা চাষ শুরু করেন। কয়েক বছর ভালো ফলন পেলেও গত ২-৩ বছর ধরে কলাগাছে অজ্ঞাত ভাইরাস (পানামা) দেখা দেওয়ায় লোকসান গুনতে হচ্ছে। তাই আগের চেয়ে কলা চাষ কম করছেন।
তারা জানান, মধুপুর বনাঞ্চলের জমিতে চাষাবাদ করেন বিধায় তারা ব্যাংক ঋণও পান না। ৬-৭ বছর আগে কলা চাষে লাভ হলেও ক্রমান্বয়ে লোকসান হওয়ায় অনেকে পুঁজি হারিয়ে এনজিও থেকে ঋণ নিয়ে কলাচাষ করে ফের লোকসান গুনেছেন। পানামা রোগে একবার আক্রান্ত হলে ধীরে ধীরে পুরো বাগান নষ্ট হয়ে যায়। তারা স্বল্প পরিসরে কলা চাষ করে কোন রকমে কলার আবাদ ধরে রেখেছেন। অনেকে বার বার লোকসান দিয়ে আবাদ বন্ধ করে দিয়েছেন।
কৃষকরা জানান, কৃষি বিভাগ পানামা রোগ প্রতিরোধে প্রাকৃতিক ছাই প্রয়োগের পরামর্শ দিয়ে থাকে। এছাড়া ছত্রাক নাশক ফুরাডন ৫ জি প্রতি গাছে ৫ গ্রাম হারে (প্রতি একরে ১.৫ কেজি) প্রয়োগের পরামর্শ দেয়। কিন্তু তাতেও ওই অজ্ঞাত ভাইরাস(পানামা) পুরোপুরি দমন হয়না। বাধ্য হয়ে তারা কলা চাষ থেকে মুখ ফিরিয়ে নিচ্ছেন।
এ বছর কলা গাছের পাতামরা ও কলাগাছ পচে যাওয়া রোগ ভয়াবহ আকার ধারণ করছে। কলাচাষ না হলে সোনালী আঁশ(ব্যানানা জুট) উৎপাদন কমে যাবে- কর্মীরা কর্মসংস্থান হারাবে। পানামা ভাইরাস প্রতিরোধে কার্যকর ব্যবস্থা গ্রহনের মাধ্যমে কলাচাষে বিপর্যয় রোধ করতে তারা কৃষি বিভাগের হস্তক্ষেপ প্রত্যাশা করেছেন।
কৃষি বিভাগ সূত্র জানায়, আগের ফসলে রোগ থাকলে বা রোগাক্রান্ত গাছ থেকে চারা সংগ্রহ করলে পরের বছর আবার পানামা রোগ হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা থাকে। চারা রোপণের সময় বয়স কম হলে। নিম্নমানের নিস্কাশিত মাটি এবং অধিক আগাছা ও ঘাস ইত্যাদি থাকলে পানামা রোগ হয়ে থাকে।
পনামা আক্রান্ত কলাগাছের পুরনো পাতায় হলুদ বর্ণের দাগ দেখা যায়। পুরনো পাতা ক্রমান্বয়ে হলুদ হয়ে যায়, পাতার কিনারা ফেটে ও বোঁটা ফেটে যায়, লিফব্লেট (মাইজ পাতা) ঝুলে পড়ে শুকিয়ে যায়। কলাগাছের গোড়ার দিকে মাটির কাছাকাছি লম্বালম্বি ফেটে যায়। আক্রান্ত গাছ থেকে অস্বাভাবিক থোড় বের হয়। আক্রান্ত গাছের রাইজোমের (কান্ড) ভেতর কালচে রঙ দেখা দেয়।
কৃষি বিভাগের সূত্র মতে, রোগমুক্ত মাঠ থেকে চারা সংগ্রহ, মাঠ থেকে রোগাক্রান্ত গাছ পুড়িয়ে ফেলা, রোগ প্রতিরোধী জাত ব্যবহার করা, রোগের মাধ্যম হিসেবে ব্যবহার হয় এমন ফসল সাথী ফসল হিসেবে চাষ না করা, ২-৩ বছর পর ফসল বদল করে শস্য পর্যায় অলম্বন করা, চুন প্রয়োগ করে মাটির জৈব শক্তি বৃদ্ধি করা হলে পানামা রোগ থেকে কলাগাছ মুক্ত রাখা যেতে পারে।
মধুপুর কলা চাষী সমিতির সভাপতি আব্দুর রহিম ও সাধারণ সম্পাদক মোখলেছুর রহমান মিণ্টু জানান, তাদের সংগঠনের সদস্যদের লাখ লাখ টাকা লোকসান হচ্ছে। বিভিন্ন এনজিও থেকে নেওয়া ঋণ কলা চাষীরা পরিশোধ করতে হিমশিম খাচ্ছে। লোকসানের মুখে পড়ে পুঁজির অভাবে অনেকে এ বছর কলা চাষ করেননি। কলা চাষে লোকাসানের কারণে ওই সব জমিতে এবার অন্য ফসল আবাদ করা হয়েছে।
তারা জানান, কৃষি বিভাগের পরামর্শ ও প্রচেষ্টা তাদের কোন কাজে আসেনি। এ অঞ্চলের কৃষকদের ৫-৭ কোটি টাকা লোকসান হয়েছে। বাগানের পর বাগান পানামা রোগে বিনষ্ট হয়ে গেছে।
টাঙ্গাইল কৃষি সম্প্রসারণ অধিদপ্তরের উপ-পরিচালক আহসানুল বাশার জানান, কৃষি বিভাগের কর্মীরা সরাসরি মাঠ পর্যায়ে গিয়ে কৃষকদের সমস্যা সমাধানে কাজ করছেন। মূলত একই জমিতে বার বার কলা চাষ করায় মাটির জৈব উপাদান কমে যাচ্ছে। ফলে ফসল উৎপাদনে মারাত্মক প্রভাব পড়ছে। এছাড়াও অতিমাত্রায় কীটনাশক ব্যবহার, ভালো বীজ বা চারা সংগ্রহ না করা ও বীজ শোধন করে রোপন করায় চাষীরা ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হচ্ছেন।
কৃষি বিভাগ মাঠ পর্যায়ে কৃষকদের সঠিক পরামর্শ, জৈব সার ব্যবহার ও কলা চাষে ফুডব্যাগিং পদ্ধতিতে নিরাপদ খাদ্য উৎপাদনে কাজ করছে।
